DFW Construction Career Days

Texas Construction Career Days?

What is it about?

Construction Careers

Construction Career Days is about:

Youth are vital to the construction industry. Today’s high school students represent the pool of workers from which the construction industry will recruit its future workforce. Construction Career Days will expose high school students and adults to rewarding and diverse careers in the industry. The events offer students a career option which they otherwise may not have been aware.

The concept for Construction Career Days (CCD) was developed to supply students, adults and educators with information about construction related careers. CCDs are informational fairs about the construction industry. Although our goal is to product a pipeline of new employees by providing career informational choices, our goal is not to make the success of any event dependent upon direct recruitment activities.

With pride and admirations, the North Texas CCD Committee can say that CCD initiated here in North Texas. The first event was held at the Granite’s Lewisville construction yard in March of 1999. That event started a phenomenon that has spread to more than 30 states in the US and to several foreign countries. It is with immense pleasure and gratification that we are here to say that we are back in North Texas and plan on being an on-going concern from this point on. This website is for all Texans interested in participating, establishing or re-establishing CCD fairs. Please use this and the national site as your guidepost.

We will hold out next event October 23-25, 2007, at the DFW south runway. This is the same location where we held out last two events. We welcome your participation, and just as important, your help to provide our children with career choices regardless of whether they want to attend college, a trade school, junior college or seek employment after graduation from high school. We have careers and programs that can nearly satisfy everyone’s career goals and aspirations. As the weeks and months progress, until the October 2007 event, we will put out additional information on this website and send out mailers and flyers with announcements and more information.

The Construction Industry is facing a severe shortage of skilled workers. If not addressed, the shortage will increase, affecting quality, safety, and our industry’s overall ability to compete in building the infrastructure needed by an ever-growing population. The construction industry does not enjoy a visible and positive image among youth. Construction Career Days are designed to educate our youth about a friendlier and more professional industry that cares about them and their future.

Partnerships between industry, government, community organizations and education at the national, state and local levels are critical to improving the quality of life in our communities. Construction Career Days are strongly based on partnerships of volunteers working together for youth, industry and community. Career Day partnerships reach beyond planning and conducting career day events. These partnerships also work towards enhancing career technology education, developing curriculum that better prepares students for careers in the industry and increasing the diversity of the construction industry’s workforce.
